Welcome to Faith Community Child Development Center. The information presented in this handbook is intended to help you be an informed member of the Faith community. You will find information regarding our preschool’s goals and policies and procedures, including information regarding our curriculum, tuition and fees, licensing, health guidelines and parent involvement. We know that ongoing communication is crucial to the success of our preschool program, and we will do our best to respect this important relationship. Please take time to read through this handbook as it contains important information and should answer most questions you might have regarding your child’s day with us.

Our environment fosters a love for learning, builds a positive self-esteem, and reflects the importance of valuing the uniqueness of others.

Faith Community Child Development Center has been a Nationally Accredited Center through The National Association for the Development of Young Children (NAEYC) for over 25 years. In November 2015, we completed the intensive reaccredidation process under the new guidelines established by NAEYC. This prestigious accreditation is only awarded to quality Child Care Programs which have undergone a rigorous evaluation by NAEYC. To earn the NAEYC accreditation, programs must meet all 10 standards by successfully performing at least 80% of the criteria related to the standard. We are pleased to announce that our program received a 95% rating! Our preschool is reaccredidated each year.

Our program is licensed by the Colorado State Department of Social Services. We are bound by its minimum rules and regulations. We are also inspected by the Jefferson County Department of Health and the local fire department. All staff personnel are required to be cleared by the Colorado Central Registry. This registry has information concerning anyone who has been convicted of child abuse. Each staff person is also fingerprinted and cleared through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation for any felony charges. Our programs offered at Faith Community Child Development Center include Preschool classes and extra-curricular programs included daily or once a month such as Chapel Time, Music & Movement, indoor/outdoor physical activities, and Rush Beginnings Soccer. The school is operated and sponsored by Faith Community Church as a ministry to the community. The Director and the Child Development Center work together and are in turn accountable to the Consistory of the church.
The Preschool program is open to all children ages 1 - 6 years. The Preschool program is offered 1 - 3 days for 1 year and 2 year olds (9:00 AM – 1:15 PM) and a 2 day, 2 day extended, 3 day, 3 day extended, or 4 day program (depending on the child’s age) for 3, 4, 5 year olds. Morning classes (9:00 AM – 12:00 PM), and extended day classes (9:00 AM - 1:30 PM) are offered. The 4 day program is offered on Monday though Thursday 9:00 - 1:30PM.

Our curriculum is designed for preschool and pre-Kindergarten aged children and is planned to meet each child’s individual needs in all developmental areas: social, emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual as based on our NAEYC guidelines. In addition, the curriculum and methods used encourage growth towards a positive self-image, independence, self-motivation, responsibility for self, and a joy and desire for learning.
Our curriculum is delivered through a balance of child-directed and teacher-directed learning activities, with instructional strategies that are appropriate for young learners. Through directed play and theme-based activities, children will experience math, science, music, and art, language proficiencies including reading readiness skills, physical aptitude for fine and large motor skills, social skills and a sense of Christian values. Lesson plans are posted outside the classroom and information is included in the monthly classroom newsletters.
Formal and informal assessments are completed throughout the year to evaluate our curriculum and individual learning to ensure we continue to meet developmental needs as outlined in our program goals and purpose/philosophy.
Parents will be given the opportunity on an annual basis to evaluate the center, its program and our ability to meet your special needs. These are very important to us. Please complete the evaluation form when you receive it. We appreciate your valuable input.

Our center will try to accommodate children with special needs (physical, behavioral, cognitive, etc.). Close communication with the parents is essential to providing quality care. If the child has already been evaluated by his/her school system, we will work with them to implement the IEP and IFSPs that they develop. Parents are required to submit to us their child’s most recent IEP or IFSP, and keep us updated on progress. If we feel a child should be evaluated so that they can get extra help early on, we will make recommendations to the parents.
Faith Community Child Development Center will not discriminate against children with special needs. We will admit any special needs child on a trial basis for one month, after which we will require a conference with the parent(s). At this conference, we will assess whether we are able to adequately care for the child. If we are not able to meet the child’s needs, we will give parents the time and assistance needed to find more appropriate care.

The staff is made up of qualified teachers dedicated to meeting each child’s developmental needs: spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and intellectual. Each preschool and pre-Kindergarten room is staffed with a Lead Preschool Teacher with Group leader certification and an Assistant Teacher. All of our teachers demonstrate an interest and knowledge of children and concern for their proper care and well-being. They value each child as a special and unique individual. The staff is committed to grow as people, as professionals, and as Christians. To ensure the safety and well-being of all the children, our staff maintains current training in child and adult CPR and First Aid and in Universal Precautions and attends 15 hours of professional Early Childhood development each year. At least one teacher from each room, the Director, and the Administrative Assistant has been trained in Medication Administration.

Parents are an important and vital part of our preschool program. It is only through parent participation that our school can maintain the high standard of early childhood education offered. Participating in your child’s school provides many advantages for the family, the child and the preschool program and numerous studies show that when parents are involved in their child’s school, children are more likely to succeed in school. For example, family involvement provides families with an opportunity to observe and participate first hand in their child’s environment. Families have a chance to work directly with the teaching staff, office staff and the children to share the preschool experience with their child. They get to know their children’s friends and teachers and to see their child’s day through their eyes. They learn what skills their children are learning and how they can help facilitate their progress.
Second, families provide a vital source of information and knowledge that can help their child succeed. By participating in any aspect of our program, staff and families have an opportunity for increased two-way communication, a vital component to our program. In addition, it provides an opportunity for learning for the children. For example, families can share special talents and hobbies with the children, they can help in the office or with book orders, they can participate in our annual fundraising events, or they can lead music and movement classes. Parents are also encouraged to participate on our Advisory Board which outlines goals and objectives for the program and is the vehicle to discuss policies and suggestions. Advisory Board Members are the liaison between the church, preschool and parents. Parents and family members are also encouraged to participate in family workshops, chapel time, music and movement activities, and any mission or community events if they desire. By supporting your school, you support your child.
Third, when a family member assists in the classroom it is a very special day for both the parent and the child and is treated as such. Children are proud and excited to have their families participate in their school. They are able to introduce their special guest and work with them throughout the day. This raises children’s self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition, parent helpers are able to provide an extra set of hands and eyes in the classroom which enables the program to provide more direct contact to each and every child, thus ensuring their success.
Parents are always welcome visitors in the classroom and we encourage families to sign up if they would like to assist in the classroom or with other projects. We also encourage parents to participate in the classroom on your child’s birthday and, if desired, to bring a special snack as it is a special day for your child. For safety reasons and state licensing requirements, no siblings of any age may be in the classroom when a parent is assisting as a helper. In addition, during our annual Fall Fundraiser, parents are strongly encouraged to participate in one of our fundraiser committees to assist with preparations or to help during the evening of the fundraiser. Additional areas where the center may need help, such as with committee positions, clean up days, special classroom projects, etc. will also be posted outside the classroom door and on our website for families who may be able to assist. We always appreciate any help our families can provide!

Communication between home and school is an important component of our program. Each classroom has a communication board located outside each classroom. Please take the time to scan the board regularly to keep informed of classroom happenings and announcements, curriculum plans, sign-up sheets for snacks and/or parent helping, or miscellaneous information. The preschool teachers also send home a monthly newsletter and a calendar telling the themes and curriculum for the month. Please be sure to read all notes as we often ask the children to bring in items for special days.
Information about our school, including registration information, newsletters, news alerts, parent communication documents, etc. will also be posted on our website. Our website is located at Please take time to become familiar with our website as we will be using it as a primary source of information for our families. Updates will be made frequently so please check back periodically. Email will also be an important tool used by the center to communicate with parents. Please provide a primary email address on the registration form so we may provide timely communication to all our parents. If your email address changes during the school year, please update it in the office so we can continue to provide you with important information.
All preschool children receive a monthly FCCDC newsletter with information about upcoming school events. As our center looks for more ways to “go green” these newsletters will now be emailed to our families each month and also posted on our website for your review. Hard copies will also be provided in our information kiosks and on the teacher bulletin boards. Please take time to read this newsletter as it is our main source of communication to you.
Parents are always welcome visitors in the classroom. If you have a need to confer with the teacher, please arrange a mutually agreed upon time to ensure ample time is allowed and to maintain confidentiality. From time to time, teachers will be writing notes or phoning to share a special moment they have had with your child.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are held with preschool parents of 3, 4, & 5 year olds twice a year. These conferences will provide updates about your child’s development as well as information gained through formal and informal assessments. Preschool parents of 1 & 2 year olds will receive a progress report twice a year. An individual conference can be scheduled with these teachers if desired.
If requested, we provide a class roster so you may know how to locate your child’s friends and form carpools. The roster will include the child’s name, parents’ name, address, and telephone number. If you do not wish to have your information included on the class roster, please indicate your preference on the Parent Permission Form. Please note: invitations to birthday parties or personal functions need to be sent in the mail not delivered at school.
Parents are also encouraged to contact the office with any questions about our program, to provide updates on their child or family, or to offer ideas/suggestions that may benefit the child and program. If at any time you have concerns about your child or any aspect of the program you are encouraged to contact the office or teaching staff to discuss those concerns. Our goal is to work hand in hand with our families to provide the best possible preschool experience for your child and family and we are constantly working to improve our services. Communication with our staff enables us to meet these goals.
Throughout the year, the office will send information home to parents about a variety of topics including preschool registration dates, back to school information, photography dates, Vision Screening dates, Speech, Hearing and Language screening dates, in-house field trips, mission projects, fundraising opportunities, parent workshops, class surveys, program surveys, etc. Please review this information and contact the office with any questions. The office can also provide copies of registration and health forms or newsletters. Much of this information can also be found on our website at

For the safety of the children, children should not be brought to school more than 5 minutes before class begins. Children must be escorted into the building by an adult and remain in the care of an adult at all times. Children must never be left in a classroom without a teacher present. For safety and security, the preschool and church doors automatically lock during regular preschool hours. The doors are automatically unlocked 5 minutes prior to arrival and pickup times to allow parents to safely enter with their children and will remain unlocked for an additional 10 minutes to allow parents to enter and depart the building. In addition, any visitor to our center must sign in at the office and be escorted in the building.
The center has handicap parking spaces available both at our south entrance and at our west entrance for families who may need this during drop off and pick-up. In addition, there is a ramp at both our west and south entrances with doors that are wheel chair accessible for families with disabilities or special needs. The hallways into the center are also wide enough to safely accommodate families with special needs.
Children should be picked up no more than 5 minutes after class is over. Children will be dismissed one at a time to a parent or authorized person at pick up time to ensure that all children are accounted for before the staff leave for the day. Only persons who are indicated on the Child Pick-Up Authorization form will be allowed to pick up children from our center. Please make sure you update this form periodically throughout the year if any information changes. If someone other than a person authorized on the Child Pick-Up Authorization card is to pick up your child, leave a note with your child’s teacher or call the office. Please state your child’s name, the effective date of the pick-up, the pick up person’s name and relationship, and a phone number to contact you. This person will need to provide a picture ID.
Your child must be picked up from the Child Development Center on time. After the 3rd late pickup, of 5 minutes or more, you will be assessed a late fee of $1.00 per minute. If a child is not picked up within a reasonable amount of time we will first attempt to contact the parents and then the people listed on the emergency pick up list. The Jefferson County Sheriff may be notified, at the director’s discretion, if the parents and emergency contacts cannot be reached.

It is mandatory to sign your child in and out of the program each day with your first initial and full last name for the safety and security of your child. Please sign in children with their first and last names since we have several children with the same name. Children will not be allowed to leave the classroom by themselves. The sign-in sheets will be posted by each classroom door. Parents are responsible for informing any adults that may be bringing or picking up your child of this procedure. Carpool drivers must sign for all children they drop-off or pick-up. For security reasons, all visitors must sign in at the Preschool office.

Staff is responsible for the supervision of children during regular school hours. Children ages 1 & 2 will be supervised through sight and sound at all times. Children ages 3, 4, & 5 will be supervised by sound at all times (for example during toileting) and usually by sight. They will keep track of each child through sign in/sign out sheets and will count the children throughout the day, especially during transition times. However, parents are responsible for children before and after school hours. If you arrive at your child’s classroom, and staff and children are not present, please look for a sign on the classroom door which will tell you their location or check the classroom schedule. Never leave a child in the classroom alone without adult supervision.
If a parent is late to pick up a child, a teacher will stay with them or take them to the office. Again, only persons authorized on the Child pick-up authorization form will be allowed to take a child from the facility unless previous authorizations have been made with the office or teacher. Please be assured that a child will not be left alone in the classroom. Make sure to sign your child in and out and please read newsletters and permission forms which will provide you with advance notification about scheduled trips and activities.

Your child may have the opportunity to participate in a Field Trip. Parents will be informed of field trips in advance through newsletters and a permission form sent home for each trip. When planning a field trip, families will be notified well in advance. Parent permission slips must be sent, signed and returned by date requested. When taking a field trip, the teacher will have with her:
1. Emergency Cards
2. First Aid supplies
3. Field Trip Permission Forms
4. Allergy Medications
5. Copy of each driver’s license and insurance coverage
6. Cell Phone
The Faith Community Child Development Center Director and Administrative Assistant will be informed of the field trip plan and will be provided a contact phone number of at least one staff member attending the event. If your child arrives late to school on a field trip day, they are welcome to join the class at the designated site. Please check in with the teachers once you arrive at the field trip or contact the office if your child will not be joining the class on a field trip day.
Parents are asked to drive for field trips. Drivers are permitted to carry only the number of children they can buckle into individual seat belts. A copy of the driver’s current driver’s license and insurance coverage must be on file with the school prior to the field trip. Small first aide kits should also be available in each car and can be provided by the school. All children will be buckled in individual seats belts or a child safety seat (provided by parent) in the back seat of the vehicle. Faith Community Child Development Center and staff will not be held liable for the proper type or installation of child safety seats. If you have a concern, the child’s parent must ensure that the car seat is installed properly or provide transportation themselves. All children will be supervised and accounted for throughout the field trip by teachers and parents. If there is an emergency on the way to or during the field trip, please contact the office and the teacher in charge of the field trip.

Families may visit our facility during normal operating hours, 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. First time visitors may want to contact the office in advance to get directions, hours of operation, and best days to attend a specific class of interest before arriving to ensure that class is in session. It is our policy that all visitors sign in and out on a Visitors Sheet provided in the office. Visitors will be escorted by a staff member while in the facility. A doorbell is located on the west side of the building at the Child Development Center entrance. This is available for parents/visitors to use if they need to enter the building during normal school hours while the doors are locked. First time visitors will also be given the FCCDC brochure which outlines our program philosophy, staff information, session information and tuition rates. This information along with registration forms can also be found on our website at Parents are also encouraged to participate in the classroom and are welcome to attend chapel time or any other special in-house performances or field trips.

To help children be responsible for their belongings, we ask that each child bring a backpack to school marked with the child’s name. Each child has a specially marked “cubby” for backpacks, jackets and treasured art projects. Please check your child’s cubby in the Red and Blue rooms and backpacks in all other classrooms each day for belongings or items that need not remain at school. Please empty backpacks and/or folders daily as important information is often included in backpacks.

Children need to wear clothing that will allow freedom and comfort for messy projects and sneakers for outside activities. Children should come to school prepared for Colorado’s changeable weather (cold weather: coats, hats, mittens, and boots, hot weather: sun screen applied by parent prior to arrival, hat, and sunglasses.). The children and staff will have outside activities every day except during inclement and excessively hot or cold weather. If the weather is excessively snowing, blowing or raining, the children will remain inside. The children and staff will also remain inside if the city/county has issued an excessively high pollution warning. They will have ample large motor skills time with a variety of activities in our Kids Blast Music and Movement area or upstairs in our large Fellowship Hall. Please do not send your child to school with any open toed shoes, crocs, or flip-flops as these pose a safety hazard on the playground. Tennis shoes are the preferred footwear for school.
All preschool children need to bring an extra set of clothing, including underwear or disposable diapers, socks, pants, and shirt. If your child is in Preschool 1 & 2’s and is in the potty training stage, please be sure to supply us with your child’s own disposable diapers or pull-ups marked with their name on them. If your child requires cloth diapers, the diaper must have an absorbent inner lining and a waterproof covering over top to prevent leakage. We expect wet pants occasionally and will treat any “accidents” very matter-of-factly and help your child change into dry clothing.
PLEASE LABEL ALL CLOTHING PROMINENTLY WITH YOUR CHILD’S NAME. This is important for the teachers in determining ownership of items and will help the children learn to take care of his/her belongings. A lost and found bin in located near the preschool office for items that are found without identification in them. Unclaimed items are donated at the end of the school year.

The toys and equipment used at the Child Development Center have been purchased to enrich the program. We encourage children not to bring toys to school to play with unless instructed by the teacher to bring something from home for the sharing bag, letter day, etc. Any toys brought from home will need to remain in the child’s backpack so they do not get lost.

In the preschool classes, a nutritious snack and drink is provided each day by parents on a rotating basis (approximately one time per month depending on the number of the children in the classroom). During preschool registration days and Meet the Teacher days in August and each month throughout the year, preschool parents can sign up to bring snack for the classroom on the calendars located outside of the classroom. We feel it is important to teach the value of eating healthy food and taking care of our bodies. The following is requested:
• Provide snacks that have no or low sugar content.
• Serve only water, real fruit juice or milk as a beverage.
• Whole milk should be provided for children ages 12-24 months unless otherwise directed by a physician.
• Serve something that reinforces the topic for the week, if possible.
• Serve food that encourages independence and is easily cleaned up.
• The birthday child is the exception. The child may choose a snack that has little nutritional value on this special day.
• Check with the teacher for number of children and adults in the class and for any food allergies.
• If your child has food allergies, please provide a snack and/or lunch along with a drink for your child. Please label all containers with your child’s name on it!
• We are an allergy aware environment and strive to be peanut and nut free. Please no peanut butter or peanut products in snacks or lunches. For classroom snacks, State Regulations ask that you please provide original packaging materials so we may check labels for any nut traces. Please check the expiration date on all snack items. We will not serve items that are past the expiration date.
• If you are ill or for some reason unable to come in on your parent helper day with snack, please just inform the office so that a substitute snack can be provided to the children.

The following is a list of suggested snack items. We encourage our children to try to eat healthy, “grow” foods. Also, please ask your child’s teacher about any food allergies that may be present in the classroom. Please remember that we are an allergy aware environment and strive to remain peanut and nut free so avoid any food items that may contain peanuts or are manufactured in a plant that may have traces of peanut to ensure the safety of all our children. Check the labels! For the safety of our children and as part of our state regulations, please bring all snacks in their original containers so that labels may be checked. With the exception of your own child’s lunch items, please do not pre-cut any snacks and please do not provide any homemade items (to avoid cross-contamination).
Drinks: Water, 100% Fruit Juice, or Milk
Fruit: Apples, Oranges, Bananas, Grapes, strawberries, blueberries, melons, etc.
Dried Fruit: Raisins, Apricots, Craisins
Veggies: Carrots, Celery, Cucumbers, Bell Peppers, etc.
Cheese: String, cubed, sliced, etc.
Crackers: Most varieties as long as they are not manufactured in a plant with traces of peanuts.
Cereals: Cheerios, Frosted Mini Wheats, etc
Cereal Bars: Granola, Fruit, etc.
Breads/Muffins: Banana, blueberry, Cranberry, Pumpkin, etc.
Bagels: All Varieties (cocktail bagels work well)
Yogurt: All varieties

Parents of children enrolled in the Extended Day programs are responsible for bringing their child’s lunch. We ask that all foods are prepared in child size portions, cut-up/sliced/peeled and in non-breakable containers for easy and safe eating. If any food needs to remain cold, please provide an insulated lunch container with a frozen pack. Food that should remain warm (not hot) can be placed in an insulated thermos or similar container. Please put the child’s name on the outside of the lunch box. In addition, to prevent lost items, please put your child’s name on thermoses, containers, cups, utensils, etc. Due to health risks and allergy concerns, children are not allowed to share food brought from home for lunch.
A well balanced lunch should consist of the following:
• Protein source: meat, poultry, fish, eggs, cooked dried beans or peas, cheese and cheese sticks.
• 2 vegetables or 2 fruits or 1 fruit and 1 vegetable
• Grain: cereal, whole grain or enriched bread, crackers, or pasta
• Dairy product
• All drinks need to be provided for children who stay for lunch.
* For safety reasons, please avoid sending hot dogs, grapes (unless they are cut up into quarters), popcorn, raw peas, carrots, or hard pretzels which could be choking hazards.
Children will be encouraged to eat their “grow foods” before eating their treats. Treats which are “excessive” may be limited by the teacher and is up to his/her discretion. Because some parents may not want their child eating certain foods because an allergic reaction may occur, children will not be allowed to share lunches. Note: please no peanuts or peanut/nut products.
If parents do not remember to bring a lunch for their child, the staff will attempt to contact the parent to bring a lunch, otherwise the staff will provide the child with snacks and lunch items provided at the center in case of emergencies.

We celebrate birthdays in the Child Development Center classrooms. If you would like to send in something special on your child’s birthday, please contact the classroom teacher and note it on the snack sign up sheet. We are an Allergy Aware Center, and all of our staff is well versed in appropriate and safe birthday treats acceptable for the classroom. We also encourage parents to participate in the classroom on this day as it is a special day for your child.

Frequent hand washing is required by all staff, volunteers, and children with soap and running water to prevent the spread of disease. Children, staff, and adult helpers are asked to wash their hands upon arrival. Hand washing is also required before preparing or eating snack and/or lunch, before and after water play and outside activities, after handling animals, toileting, coughing, and wiping noses. Adults must also wash hands before and after feeding a child, before and after administering medication, after assisting any child with toileting, after handling garbage or cleaning and if working/assisting in another classroom after assisting with toddlers.
Proper hand washing procedures include using liquid soap and running water and rubbing hands vigorously for at least 10 seconds, including the back of hands, wrists, between fingers, under and around jewelry and under fingernails. Hands should be dried with a paper towel or dryer. Avoid touching the faucet with just-washed hands (use a paper towel to turn off faucet). Staff members and adult volunteers will assist children with hand washing as needed to successfully complete the task.
Sinks should not be used in preparation of food. Staff should use the kitchen sinks for any food preparation. Staff and Parent Helpers need to clean and sanitize the sinks before using them to prepare food. Hand washing sinks should not be used to bath or clean children. The center has a shower facility that can be used if a child requires cleaning above hand washing.

Children enrolled in the preschool 3, 4, & 5’s program must be toilet trained by the first day of school in order to attend. Occasionally accidents will happen. We will treat any “accidents” very matter-of-factly and help your child change into dry clothing. However, if your child has frequent accidents or wears pull-ups, they are not quite “toilet trained.” It will probably be just a matter of time before they will be ready for school and it best not to push the issue, but rather offer encouragement when possible. If your child has an accident in his/her pants and does not want to be changed we will call you to come to school to assist them.

All children are required to have current immunizations and a physical evaluation by a physician. A Certificate of Immunization card and a signed General Health Appraisal form must be on file in the office prior to the child’s first day of school except for any immunization for which families are using a medical, personal or religious exemption. In these cases, the family must sign the form indicating an exemption. Any child that requires a Health Care Plan due to allergies or required medications must have all documentation in writing prior to the child’s first day of school. Due to State regulations, noncompliance will result in expulsion or suspension from school until the proper forms are received. Families will not be credited tuition money for any time the child is unable to attend due to lack of current health care forms and the family will be responsible for all continued tuition payments unless the family provides 30 day notice of withdrawal. If you child receives new immunizations during the school year, or their General Health Appraisal form and/or Immunizations card expires during the school year please provide an updated copy of the Certificate of Immunization and General Health Appraisal form to the office within 30 days of the expiration or provide evidence of an appointment for those services. These documents are reviewed monthly by the preschool office and audited by the State Health Department and Nurse Practitioner during the year and must remain in compliance. Information is tracked using the preschool Child Care Manager Information system.

We believe that parents are the best judges of their child’s health, and we trust that you will keep your child at home when he/she is too ill to attend the Center. Our goal is to maintain a safe and healthy environment for all children and adults. If a child becomes ill during school hours, the child will be brought to the office and the parents will be notified to immediately pick-up the child. If a parent cannot be located, names will be called from the emergency information sheet.
Your child must be picked up within an hour of the call and he/she must remain resting in the office until you arrive. If your child becomes ill, keep in mind that a reasonable recovery time will not only ensure your child is ready to return, but will also reduce his/her chances of becoming ill again or infecting another child.
When to keep your child home: The following general criteria will determine whether your child can remain at the Child Development Center or whether your child should be sent home.
• Fever of 101 degrees or above. If your child’s temperature reaches 101 degrees, we will call you to pick up your child. A child must be fever-free for 24 hours in order to return to the Child Development Center.
• A physician must diagnose all unexplained rashes or skin eruptions. When your child returns to the Child Development Center, he/she must have a note from the physician diagnosing the rash and a statement that says it is non-contagious.
• In any instance of diarrhea and/or vomiting the child will be sent home or asked to stay at home. Remember that children with these conditions will be asked to remain at home for 24 hours after vomiting or diarrhea has subsided.
• Any communicable disease.
• Excess nasal discharge and/or discolored discharge (nasal discharge must remain clear in order for your child to stay or return to the Center).
• Sore throat, ear ache or swollen neck glands.
• Signs of conjunctivitis (example: pink eye).
• Any illness such as unusual change in physical appearance or behavior, listlessness, irritability, flush face, headache, lack of appetite, etc. which limits the child’s ability to participate in daily activities, or when the staff cannot accommodate the child without compromising the health, safety and well being of the other children.
Please notify the school if your child contacts any communicable disease. A notice of exposure will be posted outside the classrooms.

The Child Development Center must have written permission from the parents and the doctor in order to administer any over-the-counter or prescription drugs to the child. If your child has allergies, parents need to inform the teacher of all conditions and treatments. For the safety of all involved, this information must also be put in writing. Forms are available in the office.
• For prescription medication: parent must complete Prescription Medication Permission Form and a physician’s signature is required. Prescription medication must be provided in a pharmacy labeled container with child’s name, dosage, the name of the medication, and physician’s name.
• For non-prescription medication: parent must complete the Instructions & Permission to Medicate Form. Medication must be provided in the original container, labeled with the child’s first and last name, and must contain all dosage and instruction information.
• For sunscreen and diaper ointment: parent must complete the Instructions & Permission to Medicate Form. Each must be provided in the original container labeled with the child’s first and last name.
Please notify the office when your child will be absent so we may inform their teachers.

It is recommended that medication be given at home. If medications are to be given while your child is attending school, proper medication forms must be completed. Medications prescribed by a doctor or nurse must be accompanied by the proper medication forms and signed by a physician or nurse practitioner. Please see the office for copies of all medication forms. All medications you wish to have your child take at the Center must be brought to the staff in the original container labeled with the child’s name as well as the name and exact dosage of the medication and expireation date. Medications cannot be given if they are expired. Medications, Epi Pens, Benadryl, etc. must be in labeled fanny packs and will be kept in the designated first aid area located out of the reach of the children. The procedure for storing and administering children’s medicine and delegation of medication administration is in compliance with Section 12-38-132,C.R.S., of the Nurses Practice Act. FCCDC does have a contract with a nurse consultant who visits our center monthly and will review all medications and documentation for compliance. She can also address any questions that you may have.
All teachers are trained through CPR and Universal Precautions classes. Certain staff who have taken a Medications Class are delegated by our Nurse Consultant to administer emergency medications, prescription and non-prescription medications. This is in compliance with the Delegatory Clause of the Nurse Practice Act (Section 12-38-132 C.R.S.) FCCDC remains compliant with the Nurse Practice Act. Additional policies may be in place based on collaboration with the nurse consultant or Division of Early Care and Learning (7.702.41 R Statement of Policies and Procedures).

In case of accident and/or injury parents will be notified immediately and we will call 911 if necessary. We will follow basic first aid procedures, and the child will be kept safe and comfortable. All injuries are documented and the parents will be asked to review and sign a copy. Parents are asked to complete forms when registering so that the Center staff can follow any special instructions as to what to do in case of an emergency. Forms include persons to call in addition to a parent/guardian, physician’s name, dentist’s name, preferred hospital choice, etc. Parents are asked to fill out these forms completely and update information as it changes.

Staff members are required to be certified in CPR, First Aid and Universal Precautions. If a child is injured at our facility, the following procedure is followed:
For Life Threatening or Serious Injury:
1. 911 will be notified immediately AND
2. Parents will be notified. If parents are not available, persons on the emergency sheet will be called.
3. If the child is transported by ambulance to a hospital, a staff member will stay with the child until a parent or guardian arrives. Swedish Medical Center is directly across the street from FCCDC. In most cases children will be transported to this location, however, the program staff will leave it up to the emergency officials to determine which facility the child should be transported to. This will be communicated via phone to the parents.
4. Individual health care plans will be provided on-site to the responding emergency officials. These documents will be transported with the child.
5. Families will be responsible for all costs associated with treatment in an emergency.
6. If it is a dental injury not requiring an ambulance or hospital visit as determined by the responding emergency officials, then the child’s dental office on file with the center will be contacted to inform them of the injury and the parent will be responsible for transporting them to the dental office.
5. Parents will receive a copy of the Accident Report.
For Non-life Threatening or Minor Injury
(scrapes, bumps, bruises, etc.)
1. The child will be attended to by staff. By law, we can only use soap and water, and adhesive bandages.
2. Parents will receive a copy of the Accident/Boo Boo Report.

As required by Jefferson County School District and the State of Colorado Division of Child Care, we periodically practice and document fire and tornado drills. Evacuation routes are outlined for all spaces utilized within the school. The Emergency Response Procedure is posted in licensed areas of the Child Development Center. Staff is trained in our fire and safety procedures prior to working with the children.
If there is an unsafe condition at the facility, such as tornado, fire, etc. the children will be taken to a safe location. The Director,  or person in charge will be advised by proper authorities, if possible, of a plan of action. Parents will be notified by phone as to the plan of action, and when and where children may be picked up. If a parent can not be located in an emergency, names will be called from the emergency information sheet. Please keep emergency information up-to-date at all times. It is extremely important to keep the office informed of any changes of address, phone numbers, or place of employment. This is for the protection of your child in case of an illness, injury, or other emergency.
Major Emergency Procedures
It is the responsibility of the Director to determine if a major emergency exists. It is the responsibility of all employees to understand their role in an emergency and to notify these individuals if they believe an emergency exists. Upon confirmation of an emergency situation, the Director will notify all staff of the emergency in person or by cell phone if necessary. Emergency procedures should then be followed.
Fire Procedures
It is the responsibility of all employees to understand their role in a fire emergency. This includes understanding and familiarization with the location and operation of alarm boxes, locations and operation of fire extinguishers, reporting a fire to the fire department, and knowledge of all fire exits and fire escape routes. Fire drills will be conducted each month. Drills will be held twice during the month . Fire safety week will be held each October. Teachers will plan curriculum that emphasizes the importance of fire safety with the students and discuss and/or participate in practice drills. In the event of a fire emergency the following procedures must be followed:
1. Teachers are responsible for escorting the entire class to the pre-assigned safety zone as practiced during fire drills.
2. All children must be accounted for by their primary teaching staff using the role call sheets.
3. Teachers will immediately inform the Director of any missing children.
4. The Director will check the building to ensure no one remains in the building.
5. The Director will contact and remain in contact with emergency officials and follow instructions provided to them.
6. Teachers will stay with the children and wait until they receive the all clear signal before returning to the classroom.
7. The Director will notify all parents/caregivers of the emergency by phone and if possible email and instruct them on the next steps and emergency transport.
Lockdown Procedures
Lockdown drills will be conducted each year. Drills will be held twice during the year . Teachers are responsible for escorting the entire class to the pre-assigned safety zone during the drill and following normal lockdown procedures.
FCCDC is on the emergency lockdown/lockout call list for Jefferson County. If it is determined that the building must be in lockdown/lockout based on safety circumstances surrounding the building, security threats or as instructed by Jefferson County Police or lockdown/lockout call list, the following procedures are to be followed:
1. All exterior doors will remain locked.
2. All children must be accounted for by their primary teaching staff using the role call sheets.
3. All classroom doors will be closed and locked.
4. All windows will be closed and locked.
5. All window blinds will be drawn.
6. All teachers with cell phones are to have them on and readily available for updates.
7. The Director will contact and remain in contact with emergency officials and follow instructions provided to them.
8. Children will not be released from the building until emergency is over and an all clear is given by the appropriate officials. For the safety of the children and your own, please do not try to enter the building if it is in lockdown. You will be notified when it is safe to release the children.
9. The Director will notify all parents/caregivers of the emergency by phone and if possible email and instruct them on the next steps and on emergency transport.
Evacuation Procedures

2. All children must be accounted for by their primary teaching staff using the role call sheets.
3. Teachers will immediately inform the Director of any missing children.
4. The Director will check the building to ensure no one remains in the building.
5. The Director will contact and remain in contact with emergency officials and follow instructions provided to them.
6. Teachers must stay with the children and wait until they receive the all clear signal before returning to the classroom.
7. The Director  will notify all parents/caregivers of the emergency by phone and if possible email and instruct them on the next steps and emergency transport.
Tornado/Natural Disaster drills will be conducted each year. Drills will be held twice during the year. Teachers are responsible for escorting the entire class to the pre-assigned safety zone during the drill and following normal tornado/natural disaster procedures.
Tornado/Natural Disaster Procedures
1. Children should be immediately escorted to the center Kids Blast Area for safety. If this is not possible, the children should remain in their classroom, away from all windows and placed behind tables for protection.
2. All children must be accounted for by their primary teaching staff using the role call sheets.
3. Teachers will immediately inform the Director of any missing children
4. All teachers with cell phones are to have them on and readily available for updates.
5. The Director will contact and remain in contact with emergency officials and follow instructions provided to them.
6. Teachers must stay with the children and wait until they receive the all clear signal before returning to the classroom.
7. Children will not be released from the building until emergency is over and an all clear is given by the appropriate officials. For the safety of the children and your own, please do not try to enter the building or attempt to remove your child. You will be notified when it is safe to release the children.
8. The Director will notify all parents/caregivers of the emergency by phone and if possible email and instruct them on the next steps and emergency transport.
Utility Failure
1. Children should remain in their classroom with the teaching staff.
2. All children must be accounted for by their primary teaching staff using the role call sheets.
3. Windows and blinds can be opened to allow light into the classroom.
4. Emergency flashlights will be used by Program and Teaching Staff to escort or locate individuals.
5. The Director will contact and remain in contact with the utility company and follow instructions provided to them.
6. The Director will notify all parents/caregivers of the emergency by phone and if possible email and instruct them on the next steps.

For the safety of our children and to protect our facility, please avoid carrying hot liquids or food around children that could be spilled. All hot drinks, such as coffee or tea, must remain in a cup with a safety lid and kept out of reach of children at all times. Food that must be heated should be allowed to cool before providing to children.
In addition, the water temperature in our building remains below 110 degrees Fahrenheit to prevent accidental burns when washing hands or using tap water. The temperature on our hot water heater is checked periodically by our staff and the health department also checks the temperature during their visits.
Carbon monoxide and fire alarms are located throughout the building and classrooms to ensure the safety of our children. In addition, all outlets contain outlet plugs to prevent accidental electrical shock.
The preschool does not use any lead-based toys or paint. Toy recalls are checked periodically. The facility also conducts radon, asbestos, and pest control testing to ensure the safety of our children.
If the weather is excessively snowing, blowing or raining, the children will remain inside. The children and staff will also remain inside if the city/county has issued an excessively high pollution warning or other alert. They will have ample large motor skills time with a variety of activities in our Kids Blast Music and Movement area or upstairs in our large Fellowship Hall.

One of the primary goals of your child’s program is to teach socially appropriate behavior through gentle guidance techniques and positive role modeling. Our social curriculum teaches sharing, waiting, listening, anger management, conflict resolution, problem solving and making friends and takes into account the developmental age of the child. Our Center offers a well-rounded program with a variety of age appropriate activities for your child. We believe this helps create an atmosphere which decreases the number of discipline concerns that may arise. The Faith Community Child Development staff is trained in positive behavioral supports and encouraging children for appropriate behavior.
If concerns arise with a child, the following intervention process will take place:
• The staff will sit with the child at eye level and discuss their behavior in age appropriate terms they can understand and provide example of positive behavior.
• The child will be reminded of the rules and the reason for the rules.
• The child will be redirected to another activity.
• In a case where a child is endangering the safety of another child, the child will be removed from the group until the unacceptable behavior is under control. The child will remain in sight of the teaching staff.
• If unacceptable behavior reoccurs, the teaching staff will observe the child and document their behavior in order to predict if there are certain activities or interactions that may be contributing to the child’s behavior. They will then attempt to modify the activities and/or use redirection techniques.
• If unacceptable behavior continues to occur, the parent will be notified and a mutual plan of action will be agreed upon between the teacher, parent, and if necessary, other child professionals.
• If after a conference between the parent, teacher and director, it is agreed that this preschool does not meet the needs of the child, the family will be given referrals for either professionals or another facility which could better meet the needs of the child and of the family.
• Teaching staff never use physical punishment, threats, or withhold or threaten to withhold food as a form of discipline.

We are required by Colorado law to report any suspected signs of child abuse or neglect. We may question a parent if we have concerns, so it is important for parents to communicate with the staff and to let them know of any incidences outside the school that may have left a child with a bruise or reason to talk about a situation. If we choose to file a report it should be seen as a cause for concern, NOT an accusation. After a report is made, it is up to the proper authorities to investigate. Examples of abuse or neglect which may be reported include, but are not limited to: suspected verbal abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, and lack of basic physical care or good nutrition. Appendix A contains a copy of a letter from the Colorado Department of Human Services. This letter provides information and phone numbers for reporting child abuse and licensing information.

The Faith Community Child Development Center welcomes all children in the community. Church members and families of current students have first priority when filling classrooms for each school year. Registration is held in January/February of each school year. A Registration Form must be completed for each child enrolling in our program. In addition, a NON-REFUNDABLE registration fee per child is due at the time of registration. This will ensure placement of the child in the appropriate class. Children are placed into classes based on their date of birth and classroom designations and we attempt to place children with peers of their same age and development. We follow the Jefferson County registration date of October 1 to determine proper placement in classrooms. Faith Community Child Development Center is a self-funded, non-profit program. Our center offers competitive tuition rates based upon local and state comparisons to preschools of similar quality and size. Our center makes every effort to maintain competitive tuition rates each year but reserves the right to alter tuition during the registration period based on ongoing business costs. Although the church makes space available to the Child Development Center and provides administrative approval and support, all operating costs including building overhead expenses, cleaning fees, salaries, state licensing fees, supplies and materials are generated by registration fees and student tuition. In addition to direct teacher-child classroom contact time, student tuition covers teacher planning, meetings, and daily setup. Tuition is divided equally into 9 monthly payments. Tuition remains the same for all nine months regardless of holidays, breaks, or absences.  Tuition is due the first of each month. Tuition must be paid by check or money order. Tuition for the combined months of August/May is due during registration and supply drop off dates in August. The last tuition payment will be made in April. Parents are encouraged to contact their banking facility to determine if they provide automatic check payments directly to the school each month. ALL MONIES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. Parents are required to sign a copy of the Tuition Agreement Form as part of the enrollment packet. Appendix B contains a copy of this form.

Tuition payment coupons are provided with your enrollment packet. A monthly tuition coupon should be completely filled out and accompany the tuition check. Please place your check and coupon in the tuition box located near the classroom or in the office.

If tuition is received after the 5th of the month, a $15.00 late fee charge per child is added to your account. If you pay late and you do not include a late fee, you will receive a Late Fee Notice with the amount due. After the third notification your child will not be able to attend school until payment can be received. As a non-profit organization, we rely on tuition payments to keep our organization running and appreciate your cooperation with this.
A fee for returned checks will be imposed at the rate of $35.00 per check. You will receive a Returned Check notice if this happens. Returned check fees must be received within 5 business days or will be increased by $35.00 with each notification. After the third notification, your child will not be able to attend school until payment can be received.

If a child needs to be withdrawn from FCCDC, a minimum of 30 days’ notice is required in writing, so that the vacancy can be filled by another child. A Withdrawal Notice form is available in the office.You will be notified of any balance due. All accounts must be paid in full prior to the departure date.

Family information and child files are kept locked in the program office. This information is only shared with teaching staff and program staff on a need to know basis. Information will not be provided to other families or individuals, such as doctors, therapists, child care agencies, other programs, etc. unless a written authorization is received from the parent and/or guardian. Teaching staff will keep classroom files and documentation locked as well. This information is not discussed or shared with other individuals other than the family. Information regarding scholarship awards are also held in the strictest of confidence and only reviewed and approved
by the FCCDC Advisory Committee.

The Center reserves the right to cancel the enrollment of a child for the following:
• non-payment or recurring late payments of fees;
• continual late pick-up;
• missing health care forms;
• failure to follow school policies;
• child has special needs which we cannot adequately meet with our current
staffing patterns;
• physical and/or verbal abuse of staff or children by a parent or child.

At least one fundraiser a year will be held. Our goal is to continually upgrade the quality of early childhood education that we offer. To accomplish this, the profit from the fundraising will be used to purchase additional classroom equipment and supplies, new playground equipment, scholarship funds, or to upgrade our facility. Participation of each family is the key to the success of our fundraiser. Our largest fundraiser, the Faith Fall FUNraiser, takes place in the fall and is a family event. We host a carnival for the children, a puppet show, dinner and dessert, adult and children’s drawing items and a silent auction. It is a great time for all involved! Our parents are key to the success of our fundraiser and we appreciate your involvement. A list of key volunteer positions is distributed at registration.
In addition, we will offer participation in the King Soopers Neighborhood Reward Program. King Soopers gift cards are available to purchase for $5.00. Each time these gift cards are reloaded at your neighborhood King Soopers, money is earned for the preschool. The preschool receives a rebate check from King Soopers for 5.00% of all associated reloads once the reloads reach $5,000.00 or more.

A specific amount for a scholarship fund has been established for preschool children. The scholarship is given to children based on financial need, commitment to the program, and availability, on a first come, first serve basis and is awarded on a semester basis. Families who are in need must apply each semester in order to be considered. If your family is met with a financial crisis, you are encouraged to share your needs with the director. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by the Advisory Committee each semester and remain confidential. Due to the limited amount of funds available each year, only a specific amount can be awarded to each child. In some cases, this may mean that children may need to be enrolled in one of our less expensive classroom sessions or may receive a partial paid scholarship so that others may be served as well.

The Child Development Center follows the Jefferson County School District (not Littleton Public Schools) decision on delays and closures. Our Center’s primary service is CBS4 with announcements beginning at 7:00 a.m. Parents are asked to listen to the radio, the TV or go to the CBS4 website for the announcement of a school closing or delayed start time. During a “snow day” or school closing, the teachers are not required to come to school. No tuition refunds or credits will be made for school closures.

The preschool is governed by the Preschool Advisory Team, which consists of parent representatives; existing or alumni, a Faith Community Church council member, one or more teachers in the preschool, the Administrative Assistant and the Director of the preschool. The Pastor of the Church and Consistory team is also kept appraised of any decisions or changes suggested or implemented by the Governing Body.
The Church Council and Congregation of Faith Community Church is the parent organization of the Preschool. Faith Community Child Development Center is a non profit, 501 (c) 3 Organization.

Since there are sometimes changes in our environment, enrollment, and decisions made by the Governing Body, Faith Community Child Development Center reserves the right to adjust procedures and policies or fees at any time. Families will be given proper notification of changes that may impact them. All changes are reviewed and approved by the Preschool Advisory Team.

Dear Parents,
Your child was recently enrolled in a child care program that is licensed by the Colorado Department of Social Services. The license indicates that the program has met the required standards for the operation of a child care facility. If you have not done so, please ask to see the license.

Marion Downs Center
FCCDC coordinates with the Marion Downs Center for Hearing, Speech & Language to conduct an annual on-site evaluation of the preschool children. This organization will test children at the Center and do a more in-depth screening on specific areas.

When preparing to send your child to kindergarten, it may be helpful to view the schools website and contact them directly to discuss their registration process and procedures. Most schools start the registration process for kindergarten in January for the fall semester. During parent teacher conference time, your child’s teacher will discuss your child’s progress and may offer suggestions to prepare your child for the transition.
